Todd, I have to disagree with your assessment of k.d. lang as the best living female vocalist. Taste is, of course, subjective, but Neko Case is, objectively, god's gift to music!

Really, though, if you haven't heard her solo stuff and her work with the Sadies, definitely check it out. It's amazing stuff.

Cortez the Killer is pretty close to Powderfinger...
I'm coming back because of my last comment. Sitting at work listening to the Decade cd I realize the folly of my last comment. There is no way to quantify something as beautiful as Mr. Young's body of work. It is mostly all beautiful (though there were some odd ones...). That cranky old bastard can really write a song, and man can he play guitar. The way his band Crazy Horse sort of clomps into that groove it gets is one of greatest things in the world.
Neil Young and Crazy Horse did indeed do some incredible stuff. "Cortez the Killer" is one of my favorites, too. Listen to some of his "weird" stuff (country, blues, rock-a-billy, etc.), and you can see that they are all still Neil Young songs.
I'll check out Neko Case, but I still haven't heard anyone with the phrasing, subtlety, nuance, and outright power of k.d. lang. I almost listed her as the best of all time but figured that would cause arguments about Billie Holiday or Ella Fitzgerald.
Best rap-
Well... Dylan on Street Rock found on Kurtis Blow's Kingdom Blow ("Man that guy can rap" says Blow), or more seriously Subterranean Homesick Blues which is probably what Blow was referring to after Dylan's short rap intro on Street Rock.
I can't agree with Bob as best rapper, but he is pretty great. I'll add some fuel to the fire here by offering this:

Hey Todd, nice to see ya here! After talking to you several times about Motorhead, I can't believe you included a "Best Disco Song" category! Hope everything's going well. You'll like this place. I've met a lot of interesting people through here!
OK, I'll have to add a new category: Best Metal Band: Motorhead. No making fun of my disco song lest I bring up your fascination with Wesley Crusher.
